Description
Glenallachie White Heather 15 Years Old is a 15 year old blended Scotch from GlenAllachie, a revival of an old Mackinlay blend by Billy Walker. Its water is the Lochnagar Burn, drawn down from the slopes of Ben Rinnes. It was founded in 1967, designed by the architect William Delme Evans, his fourth distillery after Jura and Tullibardine. It matures its spirit in sixteen dunnage warehouses on the distillery site at Aberlour. Its stills were doubled from two to four within months of opening, the lyne arms angled down for a fuller spirit.
The GlenAllachie within gives dried fruit and a dark chocolate. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin and a soft coconut under the malt. The full spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out its darker register. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body.
At an approachable 46% it is soft and fruity. Raisin, chocolate and a warm spice run through it. Dried fruit and a treacle sit behind the spice. It finishes long, full and fruity. A characterful blended Scotch.
