This official GlenAllachie, a 9 year old, at 48%. It belongs to GlenAllachie's The Wood Collection. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt from the hills above Aberlour, below Ben Rinnes. It was built for the 1960s blend boom, its make long destined for the blender's vat. It was founded in 1967, designed by the architect William Delme Evans, his fourth distillery after Jura and Tullibardine.

The spirit was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, for the rich, sherried make GlenAllachie is known for. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working deep into the malt. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin and toasted sugars over the full, fruity spirit. Maturation runs slow and even in the on site dunnage warehouses at Aberlour. The full spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out its darker register. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body.

At a hearty 48% it carries real weight. A rich, sherried sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is full and fruity, the spirit carrying the cask. The finish is long, rich and spiced. This is a deep, sherried Speyside single malt.
