Description
An 8 year old GlenAllachie from Brühler Whiskyhaus, at 56.4%, one of 592 bottles. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt, founded in 1967 below Ben Rinnes near Aberlour. It was built by Mackinlay McPherson, the firm that supplied whisky to Shackleton's 1907 expedition. It was built for the 1960s blend boom, its make long destined for the blender's vat. It runs unusually long fermentations, up to a hundred and sixty hours, for a thick, ester rich and fruity spirit.
The spirit was worked unhurried through the stillhouse, for a full make built to take active wood. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working deep into the malt. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin and toasted sugars over the full, fruity spirit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. The casks are picked closely, the wood matched to the rich GlenAllachie make.
Bottled at a cask strength 56.4%, it is deep and concentrated. A deep, dark sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Dried fruit and a treacle sit behind the spice. The finish is long, rich and spiced. This is GlenAllachie's deep, fruity Speyside style.
