Description
A 14 year old GlenAllachie from Duncan Taylor, distilled in 2008, from cask 309007991, at 53.8%, one of 356 bottles. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt, revived in 2017 by the team of Billy Walker. It was built for the 1960s blend boom, its make long destined for the blender's vat. Its water is the Lochnagar Burn, drawn down from the slopes of Ben Rinnes.
The spirit was run slowly off the spirit still, building a deep malt of dried fruit and dark sugar. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the full GlenAllachie make. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the orchard notes deepening to sultana, date and chocolate. Active first fill wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt. Maturation runs slow and even in the on site dunnage warehouses at Aberlour. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time.
At a natural 53.8% it is full and rich. Orange, raisin and a treacle edge, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The mouthfeel is full and coating, the fruit dark and sweet. The finish is long, rich and spiced. This is a rich Speyside malt of dried fruit and chocolate.
