Wemyss Malts bottled this GlenAllachie, a 14 year old, distilled in 2007, at 46%, one of 785 bottles. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt, revived in 2017 by the team of Billy Walker. It was founded in 1967, designed by the architect William Delme Evans, his fourth distillery after Jura and Tullibardine. Its stills were doubled from two to four within months of opening, the lyne arms angled down for a fuller spirit. It was designed almost entirely gravity fed, an efficient plant for its time.

The spirit was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, for the rich, sherried make GlenAllachie is known for. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the full GlenAllachie make. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the rich spirit growing rounder and darker. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.

At 46% it is rich, fruity and deep. A deep, dark sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Fig, honey and a dark chocolate fill the middle. The finish is rounded, dark and spiced. This is a Speyside single malt of real standing.
