Description
Asta Morris bottled this GlenAllachie, an 11 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask AM147, at 56%, one of 724 bottles. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt, long a blending malt and now a sherry led name in its own right. It was founded in 1967, designed by the architect William Delme Evans, his fourth distillery after Jura and Tullibardine. It matures its spirit in sixteen dunnage warehouses on the distillery site at Aberlour.
The spirit was drawn from a thick, full bodied wash, for the rich, sherried make GlenAllachie is known for. An Oloroso cask held it, drawing the rich spirit on over the years. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the rich spirit growing rounder and darker. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body. Active first fill wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt.
At a hearty 56% it carries real weight. Date, fig and a warm cinnamon, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Fig, honey and a dark chocolate fill the middle. The finish runs long, full and warming. This is a full bodied Speyside single malt of real richness.
