Description
A 10 year old GlenAllachie from PerfectDram, distilled in 2014, from cask 534, at 54.4%, one of 226 bottles. GlenAllachie is a deep, dark Speyside malt of dried fruit, chocolate and spice. Its water is the Lochnagar Burn, drawn down from the slopes of Ben Rinnes.
Distilled in copper pot stills, for the rich, sherried make GlenAllachie is known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending a creamy vanilla. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the orchard notes deepening to sultana, date and chocolate. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. Maturation runs slow and even in the on site dunnage warehouses at Aberlour. Active first fill wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time. The full spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out its darker register.
At a hearty 54.4% it carries real weight. A deep, dark sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dark chocolate and a soft oak give it weight. The close is rich and dark, fruit over a warm spice. This is a dark, fruity Speyside single malt.
