Description
From the bottler Decadent Drinks, an 8 year old Glen Scotia, distilled in 2014, bottled at 57.1%, one of 430 bottles. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from the Loch Lomond Group, salty and oily in style. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland.
The spirit was distilled slow for the salty, oily Glen Scotia style, building a maritime character of sea salt and oil. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the coastal spirit. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over a briny, oily spirit. Refill oak lets the salty, oily Glen Scotia character lead the way. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the briny Campbeltown spirit. It has been owned by the Loch Lomond Group since the 1990s, after many changes of hands.
At cask strength 57.1% it is full bodied. Sea salt, oil and a salted toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. A long, oily finish carries a sea salt and a citrus. This is Glen Scotia's coastal, briny Campbeltown style.
