Description
This Glen Spey was bottled by James Eadie, a 12 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask 805425, at 59.7%, one of 312 bottles. Glen Spey is a Speyside single malt from Rothes, founded in 1878 as the Mill of Rothes. Most of its spirit goes to blends; single malt Glen Spey is rare, and largely the work of independents. It is one of five distilleries in the whisky town of Rothes, in the heart of Speyside.
Distilled in tall onion shaped stills, building a light, fragrant spirit with a thread of nuttiness. Maturation came in a Marsala cask, layered over the fresh Glen Spey make. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the hay softening towards a nutty honey. Long ageing turns the green, herbal edge towards orchard fruit, honey and a gentle spice. Built for the blender's art, the light make ages with quiet grace as a single malt.
At its natural 59.7% it is rich and grassy. A delicate, fruity malt with a waxy edge, with a raisined, herbal sweetness from the cask. Soft meadow grass and a nutty malt sit behind the cask. The finish is light, grassy and clean. This is the delicate, grassy malt of Rothes.
