Description
This Glen Spey was bottled by Kirsch Import, a 10 year old, distilled in 2014, from cask KI-801315, at 52.1%. Glen Spey is a Speyside single malt, long a quiet backbone of the J and B blend. Most of its spirit goes to blends; single malt Glen Spey is rare, and largely the work of independents.
It was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, giving the clean, nutty Speyside spirit Glen Spey is known for. Finished in a Red Wine cask, the wood building on the light spirit. Through integration the spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper orchard fruit over the nutty malt. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the delicate Speyside spirit. Built for the blender's art, the light make ages with quiet grace as a single malt. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.
At a natural 52.1% it is full and nutty. A delicate, fruity malt with a waxy edge, with red berry and a dry spice from the cask. Soft meadow grass and a nutty malt sit behind the cask. The finish is rounded, nutty and clean. This is a quiet, characterful Speyside single malt.
