Description
This Glen Spey comes from Signatory Vintage, the Edinburgh house that now bottles at Edradour above Pitlochry, a 10 year old, distilled in 2010, from cask 804786 + 804792, at 46%. Glen Spey is a light, fragrant Speyside malt of fresh grass and a nutty malt. Its stills carry purifiers, which raise the reflux and return the heavier vapours for a lighter, cleaner spirit. Most of its spirit goes to blends; single malt Glen Spey is rare, and largely the work of independents.
It was distilled from unpeated malt, for a fine, clean malt the blenders have long prized. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a touch of honey. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the hay softening towards a nutty honey. A light oiliness carries a waxy thread through the long, slow maturation. Built for the blender's art, the light make ages with quiet grace as a single malt.
At an approachable 46% it is fresh and clean. A delicate, fruity malt with a waxy edge, lifted by a soft oak. The mouthfeel is light, a faint waxiness carrying the fruit. The finish is light, grassy and clean. This is a light, nutty Speyside single malt.
