Description
A Glen Spey of a 10 year old chosen by James Eadie, distilled in 2009, from cask 356848, at 59.5%, one of 300 bottles. Glen Spey is a Speyside single malt whose purifier stills give a light, grassy spirit. It is one of five distilleries in the whisky town of Rothes, in the heart of Speyside.
Run slowly off the four copper stills, for a delicate make of fresh grass and orchard fruit. It was matured in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood working into the light malt. Through integration the spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper orchard fruit over the nutty malt. Years in oak round the spirit, the fresh notes deepening towards a nutty honey and orchard fruit. Built for the blender's art, the light make ages with quiet grace as a single malt. A light oiliness carries a waxy thread through the long, slow maturation.
At a natural 59.5% it is full and nutty. Green grass, light honey and a nutty malt, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. Beneath it run fresh grass, light fruit and a nutty malt. The finish is light, grassy and clean. This is Glen Spey's clean, nutty Speyside character.
