A 10 year old Glen Scotia, a distillery bottling, from 2010, at 46%, 493 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt made on Crosshill Loch water in the Wee Toon. Its long ferment, averaging well over a hundred hours, builds a fruity, coastal character.

Worked through the stills for an oily, coastal make, building the Campbeltown Glen Scotia style. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the brine deepening over a salted toffee. Maturation in the Campbeltown warehouses, by the sea, lends a coastal edge. It is one of only three working distilleries left in Campbeltown, with Springbank and Glengyle. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make.

At an approachable 46% it is soft and coastal. Sea salt, oil and a salted toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Citrus, brine and a salted toffee fill the middle. The finish is long, oily and salted. This is Glen Scotia, a survivor of the old whisky capital.
