Description
An official release of Glen Scotia, at 50%, 6000 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a maritime Campbeltown malt, one of the last three of a town that once held thirty. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim.
The spirit was made on Crosshill Loch water in the heart of Campbeltown, giving a coastal, briny Campbeltown spirit. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the salt and oil. Without an age statement, vanillin sweetness and a briny oil point to good years in oak. The oily, coastal spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and brine to the fore. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the sea salt and toffee growing with time. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make. It was founded in 1832 as Scotia, one of the survivors of Campbeltown's Victorian whisky boom.
Bottled at a cask strength 50%, it is rich. Citrus, salt and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Citrus, brine and a salted toffee fill the middle. The finish is rounded, salted and oily. This is one of the last three Campbeltown malts.
