Description
An official release of Glen Scotia, a 10 year old, from 2013, cask 20/304-2, at 56.4%, 241 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from the Loch Lomond Group, salty and oily in style. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland.
It was drawn off the stills after a long ferment for a fruity, briny spirit, building the Campbeltown Glen Scotia style. Finished in a Rum cask, the wood building over the oily, coastal spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the brine deepening over a salted toffee. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. The cool, salt laden Campbeltown air gives a slow, coastal maturation in the warehouses. The Glen was added to the Scotia name around 1930, the distillery dating to 1832. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make.
At cask strength 56.4% it is full bodied. Citrus, salt and a soft vanilla, with a soft brown sugar and a tropical fruit from the cask. A baked apple and a sea salt lift it. A long, oily finish carries a sea salt and a citrus. This is a Campbeltown single malt of real character.
