Description
This official Glen Scotia, a 5 year old, from 2019, at 56.5%, 334 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from the Loch Lomond Group, salty and oily in style. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make.
Distilled slowly in a single pair of stills for an oily, coastal make, for the salty, oily make Glen Scotia is known for. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working into the oily malt. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the salty make. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the briny Campbeltown spirit. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the sea salt and toffee growing with time. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim. The Campbeltown style is oily and salted, the cask deepening it over the years.
At 56.5%, undiluted, it is deep and briny. Citrus, salt and a soft vanilla, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked apple and a sea salt lift it. The finish is rounded, salted and oily. This is a salty, oily Campbeltown single malt.
