Description
This official Glen Scotia, at 46%, 1204 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt known for sea salt, oil and a salted toffee. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland.
Worked through the stills for an oily, coastal make, building a maritime character of sea salt and oil. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the salty, oily character to the fore. Without an age statement, vanillin sweetness and a briny oil point to good years in oak. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the briny Campbeltown spirit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Years in oak round the spirit, the brine and citrus deepening to a salted toffee. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim. Refill oak lets the salty, oily Glen Scotia character lead the way.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. Sea salt, oil and a salted toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a sea salt lift it. The finish is rounded, salted and oily. This is Glen Scotia's coastal, briny Campbeltown style.
