Description
A 10 year old Glen Scotia, a distillery bottling, from 2008, at 57.8%, 2400 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a coastal Campbeltown malt sitting between heavier Springbank and lighter Glengyle. The Glen was added to the Scotia name around 1930, the distillery dating to 1832.
The spirit was worked through the stills for an oily, coastal make, for an oily spirit with a coastal, salted edge. It was matured in a Port cask, the wood working into the oily malt. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the brine deepening over a salted toffee. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town. The Campbeltown style is oily and salted, the cask deepening it over the years.
At 57.8%, undiluted, it is deep and briny. An oily, salted sweetness, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. It is oily and briny, the coastal spirit shining through. A briny finish ends on citrus and a soft oak. This is the oily, salted malt of the Wee Toon.
