Description
A Glen Scotia of a 7 year old chosen by the German retailer Whisky.de, distilled in 2015, bottled at 46%, one of 756 bottles. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt known for sea salt, oil and a salted toffee. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim.
It was run through the stills and shell and tube condensers on Crosshill Loch water, building the Campbeltown Glen Scotia style. Finished in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood building over the oily, coastal spirit. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over a briny, oily spirit. The maritime setting on the Kintyre coast threads salt and brine through the spirit. A long ferment gives a fruity make that ages with a coastal, oily grace. It is one of only three working distilleries left in Campbeltown, with Springbank and Glengyle.
At 46% it is smooth and oily. Citrus, salt and a soft vanilla, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. A baked apple and a sea salt lift it. Citrus, salt and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a Campbeltown single malt of real character.
