A Glen Scotia of a 6 year old chosen by the German retailer Whisky.de, distilled in 2016, from cask 2865, bottled at 59.5%, one of 243 bottles. Glen Scotia is a salty, oily Campbeltown malt from the west coast of Scotland. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town.

Run through the stills and shell and tube condensers on Crosshill Loch water, building a maritime character of sea salt and oil. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over a briny, oily spirit. Maturation in the Campbeltown warehouses, by the sea, lends a coastal edge. The cool, salt laden Campbeltown air gives a slow, coastal maturation in the warehouses. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make. A long ferment gives a fruity make that ages with a coastal, oily grace.

At cask strength 59.5% it is full bodied. Baked apple, brine and a creamy oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is oily and briny, the coastal spirit shining through. The finish is long, oily and salted. This is a Campbeltown single malt of real character.
