Description
Glen Scotia 6 Years Old 2015 Cask ##22B (Claxton's) is a blended malt Scotch from Claxton's. It marries malts with Glen Scotia lending a salty, coastal note. A former owner, Duncan MacCallum, drowned in the loch that fed the distillery, and is said to haunt it.
The Glen Scotia within gives a sea salt and a briny oil. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the salt and oil. The slow distillation and shell and tube condensers give the oily Glen Scotia body. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. It was founded in 1832 as Scotia, one of the survivors of Campbeltown's Victorian whisky boom. It has been owned by the Loch Lomond Group since the 1990s, after many changes of hands. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the briny Campbeltown spirit. Maturation in the Campbeltown warehouses, by the sea, lends a coastal edge.
At a hearty 57.5% it carries real weight. Sea salt, citrus and a salted toffee run through it, oily and coastal. Beneath it run citrus, salt and a soft oil. It finishes long, briny and oily. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
