A 25 year old Glen Scotia from the Elgin house Gordon and MacPhail, distilled in 2000, from cask 323, bottled at 57.5%. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt made on Crosshill Loch water in the Wee Toon. The Glen was added to the Scotia name around 1930, the distillery dating to 1832.

Worked through the stills for an oily, coastal make, for an oily spirit with a coastal, salted edge. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla over the brine. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, beeswax and a salted oil. The oily, coastal spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and brine to the fore. The maritime setting on the Kintyre coast threads salt and brine through the spirit. The cool, salt laden Campbeltown air gives a slow, coastal maturation in the warehouses. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make.

At a natural 57.5% it is full and oily. A briny, oily coastal fruit, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft citrus and a salted oil sit behind the cask. A briny finish ends on citrus and a soft oak. This is one of the last three Campbeltown malts.
