Description
From the Elgin house Gordon and MacPhail, a 23 year old Glen Scotia, distilled in 1992, bottled at 43%. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from a town once called the whisky capital of the world. It has been owned by the Loch Lomond Group since the 1990s, after many changes of hands.
Run through the stills and shell and tube condensers on Crosshill Loch water, for the salty, oily make Glen Scotia is known for. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried fruit, a salted toffee and a waxy, oily depth. The maritime setting on the Kintyre coast threads salt and brine through the spirit. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the briny Campbeltown spirit. The cool, salt laden Campbeltown air gives a slow, coastal maturation in the warehouses.
Bottled at 43%, it is rounded. Sea salt, citrus and a salted toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run citrus, salt and a soft oil. The finish runs long, oily and coastal. This is the oily, salted malt of the Wee Toon.
