Description
The bottler Silver Seal bottled this Glen Scotia, a 19 year old, distilled in 1992, bottled at 59.2%, one of 321 bottles. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from the Loch Lomond Group, salty and oily in style. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town.
It was drawn off the stills after a long ferment for a fruity, briny spirit, for the salty, oily make Glen Scotia is known for. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working into the oily malt. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the citrus turning to a salted toffee over the oily body. A long ferment gives a fruity make that ages with a coastal, oily grace. The cool, salt laden Campbeltown air gives a slow, coastal maturation in the warehouses. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make.
At a natural 59.2% it is full and oily. A coastal, oily sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run citrus, salt and a soft oil. The close is oily and salted, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a salty, oily Campbeltown single malt.
