Description
This Glen Scotia was bottled by Hart Brothers, an 18 year old, distilled in 1992, bottled at 46%. Glen Scotia, founded in 1832, is one of the three surviving Campbeltown distilleries. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland.
It was worked through the stills for an oily, coastal make, building the Campbeltown Glen Scotia style. An Oloroso cask held it, shaping the coastal spirit over the years. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the salty, oily malt deepening. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make. The Campbeltown style is oily and salted, the cask deepening it over the years. Refill oak lets the salty, oily Glen Scotia character lead the way. A long ferment gives a fruity make that ages with a coastal, oily grace.
At 46% it is smooth and oily. Baked apple, brine and a creamy oil, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The mouthfeel is oily, the fruit carried on a briny body. The finish runs long, oily and coastal. This is one of the last three Campbeltown malts.
