Description
This official Glen Scotia, a 16 year old, at 46%. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt known for sea salt, oil and a salted toffee. The Glen was added to the Scotia name around 1930, the distillery dating to 1832.
The spirit was distilled slow for the salty, oily Glen Scotia style, for a briny, oily make of salt, citrus and a salted toffee. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the citrus turning to a salted toffee over the oily body. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the briny Campbeltown spirit. A long ferment gives a fruity make that ages with a coastal, oily grace. It is one of only three working distilleries left in Campbeltown, with Springbank and Glengyle. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland.
At an approachable 46% it is soft and coastal. Sea salt, citrus and a salted toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run citrus, salt and a soft oil. The finish runs long, oily and coastal. This is an oily, coastal malt from the Kintyre coast.
