This Glen Scotia was bottled by the Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing, a 15 year old, distilled in 1992, from cask DL 4080, bottled at 50%, one of 707 bottles. Glen Scotia is a salty, oily Campbeltown malt from the west coast of Scotland. Its long ferment, averaging well over a hundred hours, builds a fruity, coastal character.

Made on Crosshill Loch water in the heart of Campbeltown, for an oily spirit with a coastal, salted edge. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working into the oily malt. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the citrus turning to a salted toffee over the oily body. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. Years in oak round the spirit, the brine and citrus deepening to a salted toffee. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make. Campbeltown, the Wee Toon, once held some thirty distilleries and was the whisky capital of the world.

At its natural 50% it is concentrated. A coastal, oily sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. A briny finish ends on citrus and a soft oak. This is one of the last three Campbeltown malts.
