Description
A 10 year old Glen Scotia, a distillery bottling, at 50%, 6000 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt made on Crosshill Loch water in the Wee Toon. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland.
It was drawn off the stills after a long ferment for a fruity, briny spirit, building the Campbeltown Glen Scotia style. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the salt and oil. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body oilier and the salt softer. The maritime setting on the Kintyre coast threads salt and brine through the spirit. The cool, salt laden Campbeltown air gives a slow, coastal maturation in the warehouses. The Campbeltown style is oily and salted, the cask deepening it over the years. Years in oak round the spirit, the brine and citrus deepening to a salted toffee. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make.
At a hearty 50% it carries real weight. A coastal, oily sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft citrus and a salted oil sit behind the cask. Citrus, salt and a soft oak see out the finish. This is one of the last three Campbeltown malts.
