Description
A 13 year old Glen Moray, a distillery bottling, from 2008, at 54.6%, 1240 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
It was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Finished in a Manzanilla cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and the fruit riper. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
At a hearty 54.6% it carries real weight. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a dry, saline, almond note from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
