Description
An official release of Glen Moray, a 27 year old, from 1964, at 43%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
Worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. Most Glen Moray begins in American oak ex-Bourbon, the base for its cask finishes. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, beeswax and a soft honey. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore.
At an approachable 43% it is light and easy. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
