Description
This official Glen Moray, a 24 year old, from 1962, at 43%. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
It was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the light fruit lead. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, beeswax and a soft honey. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice.
At 43% it is fresh, fruity and clean. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
