Description
Glen Moray from the distillery, a 15 year old, from 2007, at 57.6%, 240 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.
Distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. Finished in a Marsala cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
At a hearty 57.6% it carries real weight. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a raisined, herbal sweetness from the cask. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
