Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company, a 28 year old, bottled at 47.5%, one of 143 bottles. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s.
It was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, beeswax and a soft honey. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit.
At a hearty 47.5% it carries real weight. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
