Description
A Glen Moray of a 9 year old chosen by the bottler Hart Brothers, distilled in 2013, bottled at 46%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
The spirit was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. It was finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood layered over the light malt. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit fresh, light and fruity. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
At 46% it is light and soft. A clean, fruity sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
