Description
From the bottler Gleann Mr, a 9 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 2010, bottled at 50%. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
Distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the apple. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the clean, fruity spirit. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear.
At its natural 50% it is concentrated. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
