Description
An 8 year old Glen Moray from the bottler The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd, distilled in 2015, from cask 7219, bottled at 56.5%, one of 348 bottles. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
It was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, building the fresh Glen Moray style. Maturation finished in a Moscatel cask, layered over the light Glen Moray make. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over bright green apple and pear. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.
At a natural 56.5% it is full and fruity. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a grapey, floral sweetness from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
