Description
A Glen Moray of a 32 year old chosen by the bottler Whiskybroker.co.uk, distilled in 1992, from cask 2945, bottled at 40.2%, one of 231 bottles. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
Drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. Ethereal and fragile, decades draw the light malt to a honeyed, waxy delicacy of sotolon, dried fruit and old oak. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time.
At its natural 40.2% it is concentrated. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
