Description
A Glen Moray of a 28 year old chosen by the Glasgow bottler Hunter Laing, distilled in 1991, from cask HL 16610, bottled at 50%, one of 270 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
It was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. Most Glen Moray begins in American oak ex-Bourbon, the base for its cask finishes. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried fruit, honey and a waxy depth over the apple. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore.
At 50%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
