Description
A Glen Moray of a 26 year old chosen by the bottler Edition Spirits, distilled in 1995, from cask HL 19134, bottled at 50.1%, one of 148 bottles. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
It was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried fruit, honey and a waxy depth over the apple. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
At 50.1%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
