Description
A Glen Moray of a 24 year old chosen by the Huntly bottler Duncan Taylor, distilled in 1987, from cask Batch 0001, bottled at 46%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
It was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the light fruit lead. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, beeswax and a soft honey. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s.
At an approachable 46% it is light and easy. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
