Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by the Huntly bottler Duncan Taylor, a 24 year old, distilled in 1986, from cask 2860, bottled at 53.2%, one of 246 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.
Distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, building the fresh Glen Moray style. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the apple. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried fruit, honey and a waxy depth over the apple. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice.
At a hearty 53.2% it carries real weight. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
