Description
A 21 year old Glen Moray from the London house Berry Bros and Rudd, distilled in 1994, from cask 5561, bottled at 56.3%, one of 245 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
The spirit was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the apple. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.
Bottled at a cask strength 56.3%, it is rich. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
