Description
A Glen Moray of a 21 year old chosen by the bottler The Whisky Talker, distilled in 1989, from cask 7277, bottled at 46%, one of 419 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt and a pioneer of wine cask finishing. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.
It was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the orchard fruit. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt.
At 46% it is fresh, fruity and clean. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
