Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by Klubb23 (K23), a 16 year old, distilled in 2008, bottled at 54.9%, one of 106 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from La Martiniquaise, light and approachable in style. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
It was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, building the fresh Glen Moray style. Finished in a Sauternes cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
At a natural 54.9% it is full and fruity. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with honeyed apricot and a candied citrus from the cask. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
