Description
This official Glen Moray, a 16 year old, from 2004, cask 341, at 60.3%. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.
At 60.3%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
