Description
From the bottler Jack Wiebers Whisky World, a 20 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 1996, from cask 291, bottled at 51.7%, one of 281 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise.
The spirit was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the orchard fruit. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the apple turning honeyed and a soft dried fruit creeping in. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt.
At cask strength 51.7% it is full bodied. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
