Description
A Glen Moray of an 18 year old chosen by the bottler The Whisky Cask, distilled in 1998, bottled at 56.8%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
It was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
Bottled at a cask strength 56.8%, it is rich. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
