A Glen Moray of a 17 year old chosen by the bottler Murray McDavid, distilled in 2007, from cask 5844 / 48 / 51, bottled at 53.1%, one of 582 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.

It was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, building the fresh Glen Moray style. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the light fruit lead. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.

Bottled at a cask strength 53.1%, it is rich. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
