Description
A Glen Moray of a 16 year old chosen by the bottler Chorlton Whisky, bottled at 52.2%, one of 116 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise.
The spirit was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear.
At a hearty 52.2% it carries real weight. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
