Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by Best Dram, a 16 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask 5639, bottled at 54.7%, one of 181 bottles. Glen Moray is a light, easy Speyside single malt with a long line of cask finishes. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
It was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the light fruit lead. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time.
At cask strength 54.7% it is full bodied. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
